Let There Be Pillows!

Since I got the color bug (thanks, to my sister...who I will affectionately call sister) I decided to add some to my great room. What a better way to make a splash then to recover some pillows in need of attention? G and I hit a new fabric store (new to us), Paula's, but it was a bust. I headed to my trusted JoAnn's and was not disappointed! But, I only had four pillows to work with...until I cleaned out an old closet and discovered two more. Then I decided I wanted an odd number so I made one using some stuffing I had in my craft box. (Yes, I actually have several of these. But, as you can imagine, they are all neatly labeled and all have a different purpose, more on that later...) The hard part was making a decision on which fabrics to choose since I fell in love with so many. After I had around 16 bolts of fabric in the cart, I decided it was time to make some choices. Hope you like them!

I'm (Dis)Stressed

Well, maybe I'm not but I have distressed many home decor items to add some color! I am going through a yellow phase so I decided to spray paint some of my current items to add some flair to my great room...first it was a frame, then a bird, then some vases...then luckily, I ran out of paint! Once it dries you just take a butter knife to it and distress it. Be careful though, it's addictive!

He Loves Me...He Loves Me Knot...

I fell in love with this wreath on Pinterest! Then my good friend G taught me how to make fabric rosettes, and it was all over...I went rosette crazy! I was making rosettes out of fabric, ribbon, and felt. I only had two major glue gun burns, so that left me eight fingers to work with! This wreath now welcomes anyone that visits our home. It also welcomes me home as I drive by it everyday. I can't help but smile with I see it...

You've Got Mail...

With Valentine's Day approaching, I thought it would be cute to make something inspired by the Hallmark holiday. I "pinned" a cute set of Valentine's mailboxes to my craft board on Pinterest. I had no intention of making them, that was until my friend G (I'm hiding her identity to protect the innocent) told me the mailboxes were in the $1 section of Target. Thanks, G! I rushed over and bought six. I thought while I was at it I would create two for my adorable little nephews. I found little wooden candle holders in the wooden section of Hobby Lobby and spray painted them. Then I found some scrapbook letters I had never used and assembled with my new high powered, cordless glue gun. (I've affectionately named my glue gun, Gunny. We have developed quite a friendship during this journey and he's only burned me a few times, but non the less, I can't seem to do anything without him!)

Playing with Buttons

I have a box of buttons that I have been collecting for years. Every time I buy something it comes with 1-2 matching buttons. I don't usually keep clothes long enough for the buttons to fall off, so the buttons just sit. One day while I was looking (shopping) on Etsy, I saw some cute prints and canvases that were monogrammed with buttons. I thought to myself, I can do that! I went to my computer and looked for a font that I would like using an "R". I printed it out to use it as my guide. Then I decided it might look good in a shadow box (thank you Michael's 50% off frame sale) using some of the scrapbook paper I already had for the background. While at Michael's, I also found a packet of buttons that were all black use for the R (for some reason I couldn't get my box to give me enough similar buttons to work with...it was worth the $1.50 not to fight it). Then viola!

It All Started with Some Corks

For a few years I've had a bowl sitting on my kitchen counter that I used to collect corks. The bowl was quite large and I wondered how long it would possibly take me to fill it...that's where mom comes in. After she came over and saw what I was up to, she decided she would help me fill the bowl. With mom's help, the bowl was full in no time! (Just kidding of course.) But we did eventually fill the bowl. Of course, by then I grew tired of looking at it and I moved it to a shelf in the dining room. Then one day I discovered Pinterest...I discovered I could actually do something with all of these corks! I created an R with them gluing them to a cardboard R I bought at Hobby Lobby. The corks made their way back to the kitchen counter, only this time, they may end up staying for a while...
